Once our heart-healthy journey began, one thing we knew we’d have to get rid of was mayonnaise! Because it’s mostly comprised of oil, mayonnaise is very high in fats and calories. Can you believe it rings in at 100 calories per tablespoon? And let’s be honest–nobody stops at just a tablespoon of mayonnaise!! You can see how quickly those calories add up! Enter Avocado Mayonnaise, as a healthy alternative!
This recipe for Avocado Mayonnaise is egg-free and has a base of heart-healthy olive oil, as opposed to vegetable oil. While we kept some of the traditional mayonnaise ingredients, such as vinegar and fresh lemon juice, which help combat the browning of the avocado. Add in some of your favorite spices or herbs and you’re off and ready to go! Looking for avocado mayonnaise with a bit of a kick? Mix in some red pepper flakes to add some bite! We’ll definitely be trying that variation out during our next taco night!
The best part about this recipe is how quickly it comes together and how versatile it is. It’s great for making turkey, chicken, or tuna salad like in our Turkey Lettuce Wrap Recipe.
