Fish Plaki (oven-baked fish), is a deliciously, flavorful Greek-style fish baked in the oven with tomatoes and onions. Fish plays such an important role in the Mediterranean diet and in the diet of those who live in Greece. When we visit Greece, whether dining with family or eating at a seaside taverna, a platter of fish always seems to make it to the table. When you ask your waiter what kind of fish they have that day, it’s not unusual to have them take you to the kitchen to pick the one freshly caught fish you would like them to cook for you. Many evenings we would sit by the beautiful blue Aegean waters, and dine on the best fish dishes you can imagine. You get a truly magical feeling when you experience dining this way in Greece.
At home, we usually have fish twice a week and cook it in a variety of ways. Fish is a great addition to our heart-healthy diet. It’s a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, lean protein and vitamins. One of our favorites is Psari Plaki, (Psari means fish) so tasty and flavorful, a perfect light and healthy meal. Quick, easy, low in calories and perfect for any night of the week.
