This dish is an ode to our Mom/Yiayia. She spends every winter escaping the Ohio cold to beautiful Florida where her favorite dish to order at restaurants is bang bang shrimp! She’ll order an appetizer portion and have it as her meal. When you order this dish out it usually comes fried, and this recipe for Bang Bang Shrimp Salad is a much lighter and healthier version.
Bang Bang Sauce
This sauce is so easy to make and takes just 3 ingredients and a few minutes. It’s so delicious and we make it probably once a week because it not only goes amazingly with this recipe but it tastes so darn good on just about anything! It’s an easy way to spice up (literally) oven-roasted veggies, fish tacos, quesadillas, crab cakes the possibilities are endless!
What is Broccoli Slaw?
Broccoli slaw is a take on traditional cabbage-based coleslaw that uses the raw stalks from broccoli. They are shredded and combined with carrots and purple cabbage. You can find broccoli slaw in your local grocery store usually by the packaged lettuce mixes. You could use regular cabbage slaw for this recipe but we love using broccoli slaw any chance we get! It has a beautiful crunch and holds that crunch once a dressing is added where cabbage can sometimes become soggy. Plus there are added health benefits to using broccoli as it is higher in fiber, protein, calcium and iron to name a few.
