As we began our heart-healthy journey one of our biggest challenges has been finding heart-healthy snacks. Let’s be honest we all love to snack, whether it’s something crunchy, salty or sweet! Why do we snack? Most of the time it’s because we’re hangry, haven’t meal-planned properly, are bored, or stressed. Of course, it’s unrealistic to say we aren’t going to eat chips or our favorite candy bar ever again. But what we can do is learn about heart-healthy snack alternatives.
Snack smarter by picking out the ones that are healthy and nutritious and eating them in moderation! Once you start looking, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see that there are so many choices. Making a list to take with you when you go shopping makes it easier to skip those aisles with the junk food. Also, be sure to learn the layout of your favorite grocery store; you can easily find the right foods and won’t be aimlessly strolling every aisle. Ingredients
- rice cakes
- unsalted almonds
- dried banana chips
- dried apricots
- apple slices
- air popped pop corn
- red & yellow slices bell peppers
- sliced carrots
- hummus
- shelled pistachios
- chickpeas
- dark chocolate
Instructions
- Combine all snack ingredients on a cutting board or large serving plate and serve.
